Tesla’s early cooling system design for the Model S and Model X (2012–2020) introduced a novel approach—routing coolant directly through the spinning rotor shaft to improve thermal management. While impressive in theory, this system became notorious for failure, as the internal coolant seals often leaked over time. The result: coolant intrusion into critical areas such as the rotor bearings and inverter, sometimes without triggering any warning until significant damage occurred.
This Aluminium cap offers a simplified, cost-effective solution that eliminates coolant flow to the rotor. It mimics Tesla’s own “Revision U” approach—introduced in 2023—by deleting the problematic rotor cooling path while retaining cooling for the inverter, stator, and gearbox. Installation is simple once the LDU is removed, and we recommend using Permatex High Temperature Sleeve Retainer 64000 for a secure seal. This solution supports Tesla Model S and X, as well as the Toyota RAV4 EV and Mercedes B-Class EV using the LDU.
Your seal may already be leaking, now is the time to act—dry out the stator and inverter, replace bearings, and prevent more serious failures. Avoid knockoffs and rely on the original design built with the right materials and engineering care.
