These used 18650 Tesla battery modules are pulled from 90kWh Model S and Model X 90D packs. With the updated higher-capacity cell chemistry, they offer improved energy density over the earlier 80–85kWh packs, making them ideal when you want more range in the same (or fewer) modules. Model S/X 90D modules are still arranged in a 86p6s configuration with 516 cells per module, each cell individually safety fused on both terminals. They retain the integrated liquid cooling/heating loop, but can also be air cooled in light-duty cycle applications. Each module includes a multi-pin connector providing cell-level taps for BMS integration and two onboard thermistors for temperature monitoring.
In typical EV conversions, these modules work extremely well in 24V off-grid solar and traction applications. A common layout for a Netgain Hyper 9 system is 1p5s for roughly 32kWh of total pack energy, or 2p5s for about 64kWh using 10 modules. This gives classic conversions a real-world range bump compared to earlier 85kWh modules, while keeping the same proven Tesla module architecture and robust current capability.
